Starting my smart home journey and confused about which protocol to choose. Zigbee seems more popular and cheaper but i've read z-wave is more reliable. What do you guys recommend? Planning to start with lights and sensors then expand from there.

Both are good but i'd go with zigbee. Devices are cheaper and there's way more variety. The "z-wave is more reliable" thing was true years ago but zigbee has gotten much better. Also zigbee3.0 devices work across brands which is great. Only advantage of z-wave is longer range but you can solve that with zigbee by adding more router devices. I have both in my setup and honestly prefer working with zigbee devices.

Good to know, thanks! Ill probably start with zigbee then. Any specific hub you'd recommend?
